Earlier this month I headed down the Ayrshire coast with two chums to stay at one of the regions leading family-run hotels, The Gailes Hotel.

We were met with a warm west coast welcome. The decor is cosy and contemporary, in a pleasing palette clearly inspired by the Scottish landscape, with plenty of greenery and fashionable rattan accessories. We checked in and had just a short hour to unpack and get ready for our session in the spa.

Si! Spa was a very pleasant surprise indeed. Many hotels which have been due a refurb in their wellness areas have had to put back renovation plans due to Covid however, SimpsInns which owns The Gailes has invested a significant £2 million into the spa - and it boy does it show! It is little wonder then that Si! Feeling on cloud nine and thoroughly zen it was back to our room to prepare for dinner in the Coast Restaurant. The Coast is a welcome new addition to The Gailes with a fresh nautical vibe in decor and on the menu. We chose seafood starters and fish of the day main courses with a bottle of recommended wine. The food was fresh, tasty and beautifully presented while the service was warm and congenial. A thoroughly enjoyable evening.
