The Glenturret Lalique Restaurant

Just over an hour from Scotland’s capital, near the pretty town of Crieff, is a green and leafy idyll where the tumbling waters of the River Turret can be heard above the rustle of the trees. Known as The Hosh, this has been home to Scotland’s oldest working distillery since 1763 and is now a must visit destination for foodies.

As one of the country’s most exciting new Michelin starred restaurants, The Lalique, is a luxurious and intimate 26 couverts dinner-only restaurant which overlooks the old still houses of the Glenturret Distillery. The bright, glass-fronted dining room which sits within one of the distillery’s traditional square wooden pagodas and features two spectacular five-tier LALIQUE chandeliers has to be seen to be believed.

We visited at lunchtime and were seated in the equally impressive bar area. This is no ordinary pub grub. Head Chef Mark Donald who joined in early 2021 to build his team and started developing dishes and menus – shaped by his own global travels and experiences – has created an elegant menu that befits its location and showcases Scotland’s larder.

The Glenturret cocktails that began the proceedings, were light and refreshing, and served in the most exquisite LALIQUE glasses. Small plates of Spiced Cashews, Pickles, Oysters with Kipper Vinaigrette, Padrón Peppers followed along with Glenturret Haggis, Pickled Neeps, Salt ‘n Malt Fries and Hay Baked Celeriac, Enoki and Hen’s Egg. Delicious and perfectly executed.

With a brand new Michelin Star as testament to its success, both Donald and Manager Colin Hart have created a very special dining experience indeed, in one of Scotland’s most special locations.
