Nostalgic Scenes and Marmalade Dreams
Yesterday we were invited to join Emma South, the fragrance and lifestyle expert at Jo Malone London, for the launch of the brand’s new limited-edition Marmalade Collection, five sun-filled fragrances inspired by nostalgic scenes, which launches on 1st May.
With the history of marmalade so inextricably linked with Scotland, and in particular Dundee, we couldn’t resist seeing what the fragrance house had to show us.
The limited edition packaging, a total departure from the usual sophisticated glass bottles, is a fun look for the brand and is inspired by retro marmalade jars. This looks to be the only nod to the famous Dundee marmalade icon, James Keiller who used this stoneware to house the sticky, jammy condiment but as likely to be as sought after by collectors.
Fragrance aficionados will adore the five colognes which are like warm air infused with scents of summer: elderflower, blackberry, and rose, and all the fun of the fete. While the sun shines, families gather, brightly coloured bunting flutters gently in the breeze. Jars of homemade jams and marmalades sit on gingham tabletops and all is fine with the world…
Tangy Rhubarb 30ml - RRP £55
The unmistakable tang of unruly rhubarb plucked from the overgrown garden. Its bright and striking stems fill the bustling kitchen. Rhubarb brings a characterful heart to this eccentric fragrance, complemented by zesty orange and an elegant note of cedarwood.
Rose Blush 30ml - RRP £55
Delicate rose petals suspended in a delectable jelly. The charm of these blushing pink petals inspires a prized preserve. Vibrant basil and a juicy note of lychee adda modern twist to this pretty floral scent, cocooned in the comforting embrace of white musk.
Blackberry & Bay 30ml - RRP £55
Childhood memories of blackberry picking. A burst of deep, tart blackberry juice, blending with a fresh note of just-gathered bay and brambly woods. Vibrant and verdant.
Elderflower Cordial 30ml - RRP £55
Capturing the scent of delicate elderflower buds harvested from the hedgerow son a cloudless morning. The soft, powdery appeal of these tiny white flowers inspire a very British recipe. Complemented by notes of hawthorn and tart, summer-green gooseberries.
Orange Peel 30ml - RRP £55
Marmalade making, a most British of traditions. Orange peel simmers on the stove, its zesty aroma and bitter bite tantalising the senses. Warm woods are blended with orange to create a refined, golden fragrance. Quirky natural rhubarb adds an enticing appeal to this fresh take on the classic marmalade. This is the real star of the collection, just add sun.
