Summer in the City
It’s summer in the city, but unlike our European counterparts we’ve not quite nailed the art of alfresco drinking…until now.
Covid saw lots of our favourite bars and restaurants pop a few tables and chairs on the pavement outside without much time or budget to consider the aesthetics of the situation. Over the last couple of years drinking and dining alfresco, even with Scotland’s inclement weather, has become something of a novelty and the recent The Queen’s Speech delivered by Charles, Prince of Wales recommending that councils allow outdoor eating and drinking to become a permanent fixture - it looks like it’s here to stay.
But, as summer approaches (she’s days away folks!) you might want to enjoy your outdoor drinks in a prettier setting. Here are some of the terraces that are serving European vibes, top notch drinks and the most instagrammable settings.
The Social, Glasgow
Belvedere, the world’s first super-premium vodka, has launched a new Belvedere Organic Infusions Terrace at The Social in Glasgow, bringing the colour, scents, sounds and delicious flavours of a vibrant European street scene to the heart of the city.
The stunning new outdoor terrace, located in the heart of Royal Exchange Square, promises to be the city’s hottest alfresco destination, offering fun with friends, and the celebratory spirit of summer in a glass. A beautiful botanical-themed bar, dressed with striking floral décor, rustic crates of fresh seasonal fruits, and dramatic bouquets of herbs, will complement the terrace.
To celebrate the Belvedere Organic Infusions’ arrival in Glasgow, guests visiting The Social can enjoy sampling of the new spritz cocktails on the terrace every Friday between 4pm and 8pm, beginning till July.
Tigerlily, Edinburgh
Synonymous with the most captivating alfresco destinations across the globe, Côtes-de-Provence French rosé wine, Whispering Angel, has revealed a striking new terrace, at Tigerlily located in the heart of the capital’s stylish George Street.
Oozing a glamorous, playful spirit reminiscent of Saint-Tropez, the Whispering Angel terrace, with its beautiful Provence-themed décor, distinctive pink parasols and a swing seat for spontaneous fun, will offer an exceptional social hotspot for summer in the company of friends and loved ones till September.

To celebrate the arrival of the terrace, Tigerlily has launched two new decadent experiences: Whispering Angel Afternoon Tea with a 175ml glass of Whispering Angel, at £29 per person, and Whispering Angel Brunch with sharing platter, brunch item, Frose cocktail and a half bottle of Whispering Angel, at £48 per person.

Summer in the city is set to get a whole lot hotter as X by Glenmorangie – the ‘made to mix’ scotch – has announced special guest DJs who will each be taking centre stage monthly on its striking X terrace at The Alchemist in Edinburgh, headlining a new X by Glenmorangie Summer Set.
Nightwave, one of the country’s most in-demand female electronic DJs will soundtrack the terrace on Friday 1st of July in between a busy European summer schedule and major festival appearances.
Rounding off the summer, is AmyElle who plays on Friday 29th July. Championed by BBC Radio 1, Pete Tong, Danny Howard, Diplo and Mixmag, and fresh from supporting Fatboy Slim, 2022 is proving to be a massive year for the Scottish star who is on a meteoric rise.
