Five minutes with... Blaise Donald of Covet
Sponsored post in partnership with Covet
One of Edinburgh’s best-loved boutiques, Covet is a treasure trove for accessories addicts. We sat down with Blaise Donald, co-owner of the boutique, to find out more about Covet and her fashion must-haves for this season.
Why did you decide to open your own boutique?
I dreamt up Covet with my best friend and business partner, Anna Somerville. We spotted a gap in the market to sell less well-known handbag and accessory brands from all over Europe that couldn’t be found anywhere else in Edinburgh, and that offered something different to the high street and high end designer labels.
Anna and I had previously worked together in restaurants and for a jewellery brand. We already knew that we made a great team. We loved the idea of working for ourselves and enjoying the freedom that running our own business would bring.
What’s your favourite ever accessory - either past or present?
I have to admit that my favourite accessory changes every season and although I love my gold Edinburgh clutch bag dearly, I am really in love with the new printed fabric bags that have just arrived from Portugal, they just make me happy! I love all of the prints so much that I am genuinely in a quandary about which one to go for, I have a feeling I will end up owning more than one.
Which one item do you think every woman should have in her wardrobe?
Our inspiration when we designed the Edinburgh Bag was that it would be the perfect wardrobe stable that all women should have. It is relaxed yet smart and can be worn as a clutch, a cross-body bag, shoulder or messenger bag. It truly is a multitasker that can be worn day or night, and there’s an array of gorgeous colours to choose from, including luxe metallics.
Tell us more about the Covet bags designed in-house.
We have four key styles; the Edinburgh bag, the Covet tote, the New Town bag and the Essential clutch. They are all timeless styles made in sumptuous Italian leathers. All of our bags are designed by us here in Edinburgh and handcrafted in Spain. We choose new colours each season and we are currently working on a fifth style which we will be available at the end of November.
Which trend will you be wearing this A/W?
Winter is my favourite season for fashion and I love wearing warm chunky knits and coats. I have an amazing collection of colourful scarves and statement jewellery so it is easy for me to transform what I am wearing just by adding great accessories.
