With the sun finally making an appearance, we’re ditching our heavy foundations in favour of sunkissed skin and a natural glow. Here’s how to get the coveted au naturel look, courtesy of award-winning Aberdeen-based hair stylist Kimberly Logie and makeup artist Jenny Grey.

Hair: how to get effortless, tousled waves

  1. First, detangle hair by brushing through with a Kristin Ess Medium Detangling Brush, then give hair a deep cleanse. Mix a small amount of scalp and body scrub with Ouai Volume Shampoo and gently massage to remove excess build-up on your hair and scalp. Rinse and follow up with Ouai Volume Conditioner, then comb through.

  2. Remove most of the moisture by blowdrying the hair with a GHD Air dyer - use your hands rather than a brush. Once almost dry, switch to an Ibiza B4 Brush. Working from the nape of the neck upwards, take clean sections and direct the air flow upwards to achieve a smooth and shiny voluminous finish. Once dry, apply Ouai Memory Mist as a heat protectant before styling.

  3. Use your GHD Platinum Plus+ styler and turn various sized sections in different directions. Isolate the section of hair nearest to your front hairline and be sure to turn the iron going away from the face. Continue gliding the iron off of the hair, increasing speed while nearing the ends for a more natural, less curly finish.

  4. Pop in some Harry Josh Setting Clips while applying makeup to keep the hair in place, as well as to help form more defined areas where you would like the hair to be held away from the face.

  5. Apply Ouai Hair & Body Shine Mist - hold far from the head and allow it to gently fall onto the hair for a lush shine while maintaining the soft airy texture. Enhance and expand the hair shape while adding polish with the Ibiza Hair Metallic Series SL7 brush and there you'll have it - natural, tousled hair that looks effortless.

Makeup: how to get a fresh, dewy “no-makeup” look

  1. Prep the skin using Nip+Fab Dragon’s Blood Fix Serum by patting it onto cleansed skin which has been spritzed with Iconic London’s Prep-Set-Glow mist to really enhance hydration for a dewy finish. Don’t forget to prep the lips too - condition with Paw Paw Lip Ointment to help with any dryness.

  2. For the complexion, use Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation - mix together two shades if necessary to perfectly match your skin tone. Gently work the foundation into the skin with a duo fibre stippling brush for a fresh base. Aren’t blessed with natural freckles? Use the same brush - but the very tips only - with a darker shade of Skin Base to carefully place faux freckles around the face. Use a small eyeliner pointed brush to define existing larger freckles and beauty marks.

  3. Then use your fingers to gently dab in the product, paying particular attention to drier areas and freckles, for a natural skin-like finish. Use the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Killer Cheekbones palette to add bronze and blush. Pop some Iconic London Cream Highlight underneath Illamasqua OMG highlighter on the high points of the fact to accentuate the cheekbones, inner eyes, lip line and collarbones.

  4. Next, prime the eyes with Illamasqua Skin Base Concealer. Using a fluffly blending brush, buff in Illamasqua Heroin eyeshadow over the socket, then transition into the lid with Illamasqua Hoard eyeshadow. Add a touch of highlighter over the middle of the eye to create a subtle dewy effect.

  5. Finally, brush the brows with Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel (use a touch of brow pencil or powder if you have any gaps to fill in) and apply Illamasqua Rosepout Lipstick over the top of the lip ointment for a natural, hydrated and plump finish.
