Have a Wild Day Out in the Seilich Meadow!
Celebrate National Meadow Day on Saturday, 6th July, with a visit to Seilich, the meadow-grown skincare company based in Midlothian. Seilich invites everyone to an open day at Rosemains Steading, Pathhead, EH37 5UQ, from 10am to 4pm, to experience the midsummer meadow at its best and learn more about this biodiverse space.
Seilich was founded by botanist Dr. Sally Gouldstone, who established her meadow-grown skincare company to produce products made from wild meadow botanicals, sustainably grown and harvested in Midlothian and East Lothian. Named after the Gaelic word for willow (which also happens to be Sally’s daughter’s name), Seilich operates with a unique ethos: to work in partnership with nature.
Dr. Gouldstone explains, “I saw a lot of businesses that relied on nature in some way had kind of a one-way relationship with it, and were just taking things out of the system. I was keen to have more of a circular business model where we were not just taking from nature but putting it back too. The idea behind Seilich is to have a conservation project that was funded by a business.”
She continues, “I wanted to create habitats, wild spaces for nature, predominantly wildflower meadows, and harvest our ingredients from them and then use our profits to feed back into managing these spaces and creating more of them. More businesses need to do this. The biodiversity crisis is just so huge and fundamental to life on Earth. We can't just leave this in the sphere of charities and nonprofits, this has got to become mainstream. I want to show that a business model works - where you are doing the right thing and a bit extra. So hopefully, one day all businesses will be doing the right thing.”
Seilich’s award-winning skincare products are crafted using handpicked botanicals or natural, organic, and UK-grown Wildlife and Bee Friendly certified ingredients. This meticulous handpicking process ensures that only 10% of specific plant species are gathered, preserving the flourishing biodiverse meadow.
Seilich harnesses the power of nature to create a beauty business with biodiversity at its heart, leading by example and demonstrating that businesses can be a force for good.
