Mother-Daughter Piercing Date: A Gem of an Experience at Laura Bond

There's something really rather special about sharing milestones with your child, and my recent mother-daughter ear piercing date at Laura Bond Jewellery boutique and piercing studio on Edinburgh's Thistle Street was one of life’s ‘Moments’.
From the minute myself and Evie, my 14-year-old daughter, her friend Cleo and Cleo’s mum Nicola, stepped into Laura Bond’s beautifully curated boutique, we were welcomed by the super-friendly team. Our bejewelling adventure began with an ear styling session, where we were encouraged to experiment with different placements of jewellery, holding up mirrors to envision how our piercings might look. The impressive collection of sparkling gold studs in all shapes and sizes was simply stunning, making it tough to choose just one (for me) and one pair (for Evie and Cleo). After a few different try-ons we managed. I chose a delicate little round sparkling stud and Evie opted for a pretty triangle shaped one.
With decisions made, we made our way into the piercing studio. I was set to get my left helix (a cartilage piercing that I’d always wanted but been too scared of) pierced while Evie was excited for her second set of piercings on her lobes. The experience was elevated by our lovely expert piercer, Sarah Crowe. Warm, informative and super-calming, Sarah put us at ease. Evie went first, smiling through the process, though she held (and squeezed) my hand for reassurance. She returned the favour when it was my turn, and I settled into the piercing chair for my helix piercing.
As someone who got their ears pierced with a gun at 13, the difference with a needle piercing was like night and day. The needle method was significantly less painful, an observation Evie wholeheartedly agrees with. Her first ear piercing had also been by gun and did end rather painfully when a few weeks later she had to get an earring removed from her swollen up ear by the wonderful team of nurses at Edinburgh’s Royal Infirmary!
