Get Your Glow
Many of us have found that the anxiety and stress of the last couple of years have left their mark on our skin – leaving it dry, dull and lacklustre, with lines, wrinkles and no discernible glow. While good skincare and healthy living can produce results, there is also help at hand with the emergence of a new generation of exciting skin-boosting aesthetic treatments. Hood met with registered nurse and aesthetic practitioner Jenna Hollywood, from The Treatment Rooms at Dental Express in Edinburgh, to find out more about the treatment everyone is talking about this summer – Profhilo.
‘Many of my patients have found the natural ageing process seems to have sped up over the pandemic. While we previously would have only had a choice between filler and anti-wrinkle injections to slow things down, we now also have a host of other skin-boosting treatments available to address the main concerns of deep lines, skin texture, sagging, hydration and volume loss, Profhilo being one of the best.’
The first step for anyone considering aesthetic treatments is to do your research. The Hood stance is that any injectable procedure should only be administered by a qualified and trained medical practitioner; a nurse, doctor or dentist. Not only will you feel safe in the knowledge that they know exactly what they are doing, but that they are also using the best quality products in a clean and sterile environment.
Next, it’s time for an in-depth and detailed consultation. ‘The goal should always be to look refreshed and natural, with subtle improvements to help look your best, whatever your age,’ says Hollywood. ‘I work closely with each patient to identify the areas causing concern. We then devise an anti-ageing strategy, addressing these key areas and the overall look and shape of the face.’
Hollywood has recently added Profhilo to her list of services. ‘It is a hugely popular skin booster, delivering an all-round glow and deep hydration, making skin feel soft, supple, and firm.’ She explains, ‘Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a natural component of human skin but, as we get older, our bodies produce less and less of it. Profhilo is pure hyaluronic acid in high quantities, but in both high and low molecular weights. This means, unlike thick traditional filler (which are also usually HA) it spreads out evenly across the entire face.’ Hollywood uses 10 injections to reach multiple skin layers. The result? What celebrities are calling the Profhilo Glow.
What’s even more exciting is that Profhilo can be used on the face and body. The appearance of saggy knees, wrinkly arms or lined décolletage can all be improved as the product stimulates collagen and elastin, attracting water in the deeper layers of the skin. Hollywood concludes, ‘Profhilo acts as an internal moisturiser, boosting skin hydration and, at the same time, improving skin’s firmness and elasticity as well as triggering collagen and elastin production too. Skin looks plump, radiant and glowing wherever you need it.’
